My first camera was an old Polaroid, the kind that gave you a strangely coloured print 60 seconds after you'd taken the photo. There was no post processing involved! After that, I had my first small 35mm film camera. I used to develop the films in the cupboard under the stairs, and black out a bedroom to develop black and white prints with a clunky old enlarger.
